支持政策逐条列出不支持的请求类型;替代品页直接推荐竞品 Kit、Ghost、Listmonk、Patreon,并写「We would rather do a few things exceptionally well than make something that’s for everyone.」

  • 官方自述(未经独立审计):「We are profitable.」「We are funded by our customers」「We’re profitable, self-funded」「Trusted by…」(本文未采用任何客户数口径,官方也没有公布客户数)。

Support 页写「Justin Duke is a software engineer, lover of words, and the creator of Buttondown.」;品牌页写「Buttondown is run by Justin Duke, alongside a small remote team.」;隐私政策把数据保护官(DPO)也写成他本人。
About 页首屏是一组头像与名字,页面上只显示名或 handle,完整姓名在图片的 alt 文本里,本轮逐个取出为:Anita、Asharee Peters、Ben Borgers、Justin Duke、Mary、Matias Artopoulos Kozak、Matthew Guay、Matt Ström-Awn、nickd、Ryan Farley、Sawyer Pollard、Shelley、Steph Monette、Tanvir Raj——共 14 人。 Anita(support engineer and writer)、Justin、Shelley(support engineer and writer)、Steph Monette(engineer and writer in the PNW)。

① 年份:定价页 FAQ 写「fully remote and have been since our founding in 2017」,而 2023 年博文写「When we launched in 2018, Buttondown had a hybrid model」——两个年份可以在「2017 年成立、2018 年上线」下并存,但官方没有任何一处把时间线写全。

100 Absolutely nothing for your first 100 subscribers.
120 / 250 / 520 / 1,000 $9/month or $90/year (18% off!)
2,200 / 4,500 $29/month or $290/year (18% off!)
9,500 $79/month or $790/year (18% off!)
19,000 $139/month or $1390/year (18% off!)
41,000 $319/month or $3190/year (18% off!)
81,000 $459/month or $4590/year (18% off!)
100,000 Contact us for a custom quote.

页面内嵌的结构化数据(application/ld+json 的 Product.offers)给了这些档位的名称与上限:Free($0,Up to 100 subscribers)、Basic($9,Up to 1000 subscribers)、Standard($29,Up to 5000 subscribers)、Professional($79,Up to 10000 subscribers)、Advanced($139,Up to 20000 subscribers)、Enterprise(值写成 999999,描述 Up to 999999 subscribers,购买链接是一个 mailto:concierge@buttondown.com)。

+$9/month Tagging & segmentation/Paid subscriptions/Comments and surveys/Analytics/RSS-to-email support/Sponsorships/Email attachments
+$29/month Archives on a custom domain/Multiple newsletters/Automations
+$79/month Whitelabeling/Teams

配套规则也写在定价页:按活跃订阅者计价(「We charge for active subscribers — you only pay for the people who are actively receiving your emails.」)、按需加购(「let you use features à la carte, and add features to larger lists for free」)、价格假设每天最多发一封(「All of these prices assume that you’re sending at most one email a day to your entire subscriber base.」)、非营利五折(501(c)(3) 或各国等值资质,邮件附证明)。首页另有一条与「付费订阅」功能相关的承诺:「And we don’t take fees from your paid subscribers.」

2025-01-12 的调价博文写「two of our core features are getting cheaper: Automations are now available to everyone paying at least $29/month (down from $79/month); API access is now available to everyone (down from $9/month)」;而 2026-10-01 的定价页把 Automations 仍列为 +$29/月 的加购项。

Buttondown 的免费档在数量级上是「慷慨」的(100 位订阅者、四个基础能力:Rich text or markdown editor/Send from a custom domain/Hosted newsletter archives/Privacy-first),但官方在同一份文档里说清了它不会更慷慨,理由不是竞争而是成本:

Part of this means shying away from things that can theoretically grow Buttondown’s user base (such as very generous free plans) because it comes at the cost of our ability to serve all of our customers at a high level.

We want to, whenever possible, make sure we make more money than we spend on every single user. …we don’t run into odd situations where certain cohort of users are loss leaders for others.

同文还写明成本的形状:「The single biggest unit cost Buttondown has is ‘sending the emails’; the biggest fixed cost Buttondown has is ‘paying the engineers who build the app.’」——这两句话解释了为什么免费层的截点会落在「订阅人数」而不是「功能数量」上,也解释了为什么折扣被限定在非营利这一条可核验的通道上,而不是做成促销(「we avoid things like Black Friday sales or other artificial discounts」)。

第一份是支持政策(/legal/support-policy)。它先写「There are no chat bots here」,再专门开一节「The things we can’t help with」,逐条把范围切掉:

  • 设计帮助与自定义代码:「Buttondown provides two different design themes…Any additional styling or customization is your responsibility to create and maintain.」
  • 第三方工具:45+ 集成可以用,但「we’re unable to configure or modify any settings within the third-party tool itself」,也不「debug or consult on customer code」。
  • DNS:「we’re unable to make DNS changes on your behalf.」

它开门见山写「Buttondown’s a great tool, but it’s not for everyone.」,然后列出「What we try not to do」(带分支逻辑的 drip campaign、做 CMS、自托管开源、播客托管、电商),并直接给出竞品:「If you’re looking for a place to grow your media presence by gating access to content, check out Patreon or Memberful.」「If you want to use software that you can host yourself and audit the source code, we’d recommend…Listmonk」。

We would rather do a few things exceptionally well than make something that’s for everyone. Why? Because a tool for “everyone” ends up being for no one.

We’re a fully remote, independent company. No fixed offices to blow rent on. No big initiatives that have nothing to do with sending email.」;以及公开工具栈页的问答,把「买工具」的理由写成省自己的精力——「The most important resource I have is my energy, and being able to trade X dollars (where X is any number less than a hundred) for even trivial amounts of energy is an absolute no-brainer.」

/stack 页是本轮信息密度最高的一页,它把「运行一家软件公司要花多少钱」摊开写:页头是 「$86,406 / yr · 57 tools」,下面按金额排序逐项列出,例如 Postmark $1,450、Heroku $1,200、Planetscale $1,000、Plain $700、Mailgun $600、Django $417、Sentry $250、Anthropic $220、Cloudflare $175、Linear $165、Gusto $130、Tuple $120、Octolens $89、Python $83、Vue $83、DigitalOcean $80;页面底部还有一份带日期的 changelog,逐条记录工具的增删与涨价,例如「2026-09-23 Stopped using Kolo for Django request tracing.」「2026-09-14 Removed SparkPost…Replaced Cursor and OpenAI with Anthropic.」「2026-09-08 Dropped HAProxy, Localias, and Overmind…」

官方自己写明「Stripe’s cost is redacted because it scales with revenue and would be tantamount to disclosing our financials.」——也就是说这份清单主动排除了随收入增长的那一块,且不含人力成本。
工具栈页写「We’re committed to donating 10% of all profits to open source technologies that power our software」,并写明是 FOSS Funders 成员与 Open Source Pledge 签署方,另有「we donate $250/year to Adam Johnson」;气候页写「Ten percent of Buttondown’s profits go towards climate projects」,合作方是 Stripe Climate 与 Ecologi。

Product updates/Behind the scenes/Customer stories/Guides and tips/Just for fun,索引分页到第 28 页,提供 RSS,最新一篇 2026-09-25
/book、/resources 7 + 7 The Newsletter Book(作者署名 Matthew Guay 与 Ryan Farley,Introduction by Justin Duke,可下载 PDF 与 epub);垃圾邮件规则等参考页

必须克制的一点关联:官方在 Kudos 页第一人称写「I have no paid marketing, and rely on word of mouth!」——这是官方对获客的归因,指的是口碑,不是内容矩阵的效果。

Anthropic

本文在首页、定价页、功能介绍页、支持页、用例页、对比指南页与替代品页逐页检索,只找到一条相反的公开承诺——About 页写「we’ll never force you to deal with an AI-powered chatbot before talking to a human.」,支持政策写「There are no chat bots here—we take the time to carefully look into your issue, and provide a personalized response.」

We’ve quietly shipped functionality to let it automatically generate descriptions of your emails (good for SEO and for client previewing!)…Don’t expect “generate the entire email” to be a feature anytime soon, though — I’m not sure your subscribers would have fun with that.

产品里另有一个与 AI 沾边的开关:changelog 的 2026-09-12 条目写「Archives now have a Crawling add-on: one toggle each for search engines, AI crawlers, and everything else」。

/stack 页把「Anthropic $220」列进 57 个工具与月度金额,changelog 的 2026-09-14 条目写「Replaced Cursor and OpenAI with Anthropic.」,同页还有品牌监测工具 Octolens($89/月)。

免费到 100 位订阅者、之后按活跃人数分档;配套的两句公开判据(「make more money than we spend on every single user」「shying away from…very generous free plans」)比「我们有个慷慨的免费版」更容易被理解与信任。
「you only pay for the people who are actively receiving your emails」是一条可以直接抄进自己定价页的规则。
7 项 +$9、3 项 +$29、2 项 +$79,并且「add features to larger lists for free」——把「用不到就不付」写成规则。
「The things we can’t help with」四类逐条写清,比事后拒绝更省沟通成本。
三代模型的转化率与 LTV(5%/$455 → 8.5%/$397 → 9.2%/$511)连同失败原因一起写出来,本身就是信任材料。

「being able to trade X dollars…for even trivial amounts of energy is an absolute no-brainer」是他个人对时间的定价,与现金流和团队规模绑定。

本文贴三个学习标签:subscription-growth(订阅是唯一收费方式,按活跃订阅人数分档并叠加加购)、low-maintenance-operations(支持范围清单 + 替代品页的「不做什么」+「don’t maintain overhead」)、free-to-paid(免费到 100 位订阅者 → 付费档与加购的清晰路径);未贴 content-acquisition(官方把获客归因到口碑,且没有内容带来发现的一手数字)与 automation-operations(AI 出现在内部工具账单里,但没有任何「自动化减少自身运营工作」的一手证据)。

    把免费层的边界写在成本上,而不是写在「慷慨」上:免费档只覆盖前 100 位订阅者,付费从第 101 位起按活跃人数计价,官方另有两条公开判据——「make more money than we spend on every single user」与「shying away from…very generous free plans」

按「活跃订阅人数」计价,而不是按全部联系人:定价页 FAQ 写「We charge for active subscribers — you only pay for the people who are actively receiving your emails.」

把加购拆小、按月计价,而不是再造一个档位:7 项功能 +$9/月、3 项 +$29/月、2 项 +$79/月,并写明「We charge only for active subscribers, let you use features à la carte, and add features to larger lists for free」
